Minecraft Cake and Fondant Logo

Image
Thank you everyone for your get well wishes, I am sort of back in action and doing my best to catch up on everything. Today I want to show off my Minecraft cake that I quickly put together for my nephew and talk you through how to make a personalised fondant logo like the one pictured. Okay, so this cake was supposed to be a last minute sheet cake (slab) for my nephew using leftover Minecraft toppers from my son’s birthday…haha as you can see in the photo "That ain't no sheet cake!"  I have been unwell for ages and not concentrating (that’s why it was supposed to be an “easy” sheet cake) but for some strange reason I only made one batch of batter??!!! What?! I had originally put out enough eggs for 2 batches – and even when I filled the pan I still didn’t register that there wasn’t enough! ? ?  .•°°•>> Losing it!!! So anyway the sheet cake turned out quite thin and flat!! (What a surprise haha!) I didn’t have the energy to bake again so I cut in half and pr

Back to Basics Series : Part 3 Using Hydrangea Cutters

Welcome to Part 3 of my Back To Basics series. It has been so much fun to have you all join me over  these weeks exploring the 6 different shapes included in the popular 18 piece cutter set currently available from Kmart Australia. (If you don't have the set don't worry you can buy them individually elsewhere) So let's continue to be inspired to make some gorgeous sugar decorations that you can store and use up to 6 months later. Ensure you have read  Part 1 Using Butterfly Cutters   as I will not be repeating the basic step of using a plunger today, and of course it would only be logical to recommend checking out Part 2 Using Snowflake Cutters.   Each part comes with new hints and tips so don't skip ahead! Okay are you ready?  Get yourself set up with today's cutters, a mat, rolling pin, corn flour, CMC/Tylose treated fondant in your colour choice, and let's have some sugar play! **New Items needed today: Copha or Vegetable Shortening

Image
This week's Top Tip comes directly from a conversation I was having with my friend Melanie from One Tier At A Time today. Every one has their preferred methods of torting (slicing the middle of the cake) and leveling (trimming the top) and she'd very much like Santa to give her an Agbay! (Apparently a Rolls Royce in the cake leveler  brand range!) But hey I'm not a pro, but sure willing to give it a go - which also means as a hobbyist I could never afford an Agbay, and well I don't actually make enough cakes in a year to justify one.  So Melanie says, "But I like my cakes to be level!"  And I cheekily send her that photo pictured above "Oh I don't need an Agbay!" She agreed,  yes I am awesome. And no I don't need an Agbay. Ha ha ha! Well that is of course until the time comes that I am making cakes on a weekly basis, then maybe I might like to spoil my self! But for now I like to do it " Home Baker"  style!  Which brings
